Week in Review-> March 30- April 3

Good morning all!

I hope all is well with everyone during these uncertain times. For the past month or so I have been doing online school, which has definitely been a shift from waking up at 7:00 AM to get to my first 8:15 class. I think that I am finally starting to get the hang of online school, thank goodness, and from what my classmates tell me, they are too. We all miss seeing each other at school, but we are trying to make the best of things while social distancing.

If you were to check-in on me this past week when I was doing my Independent Study, you would catch me doing a few of these things. Besides mourning the cancelation of the Full Frame Film Festival, the task I probably spent the most time on was figuring out how to use the Canon 5d Mark ii that my school lent me. I watched countless videos to try and figure out all of the functions of this camera, but I still don’t seem to have it down. Thank goodness I have a few more weeks to practice before my final project though. I have some links down below if you are interested in watching some of these videos yourself!

This past week, you also could have caught me scrolling through Tik Tok. Thats right: Tik Tok, the 6-second video app that has seemingly taken over everyone’s time during this quarantine (well at least if you ask my friends that, they would say so). I found the more I saw how diligently the popular creators posted, the bigger the following they would get and therefore they would make more money from the app. I also discussed it in my interview with Brendan Gill, which you can find a few posts back. So, does that qualify Tik Tok as a commercial application for video? Stay tuned and in the coming weeks we’ll take a deep dive into this…

Something else you would’ve seen me doing the past week is watching Netflix. During this time of social distancing, it seems that the only two things that people are talking about is the Coronavirus and Tiger King. I had to see what all of the hype was about when Joe Exotic started popping up in my feed than the word Coronavirus (which was honestly quite surprising). I hopped on to Netflix and finished that show in less than two days. It was great! After finishing the show, I also started to think about how documentary filmmaking could be a commercial application for video.

After having a lot of free time since I can not leave my house, I decided that it was finally time to change my plans for my Independent Study not because they were disrupted by Covid-19, but because I had the once in a lifetime chance to see their compatibility with this pandemic. In the next few weeks, you will hopefully see these changes in effect.

Thank you all so much for reading todays post. Stay safe!
